Winston-Salem, Nc., December 1, 2023 — Precision for Medicine, the first global biomarker-driven clinical research organization, is the recipient of a new accreditation from The College of American Pathologists (CAP) for its tissue and histopathology laboratory in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This laboratory is one of Precision’s 7 global labs – 2 of which have previously been awarded CAP accreditation – indicative of Precision’s ongoing commitment to compliance and quality.
“Our recent CAP accreditation for our histology lab is a testament to the high quality of the operations and scientific teams. CAP accreditation is a necessary addition to our quality infrastructure and expertise to support our pharma and diagnostic partners’ immunohistochemistry and histopathology clinical trial and research needs. This key milestone, along with the investment in our tissue biorepository, solidifies our commitment to providing the highest level of service in advancing translational and diagnostic research,” said Dr. Cullen Taylor, Medical Director at Precision for Medicine.
CAP accredited laboratories have a commitment to a high level of quality while performing tests that require advanced expertise and training. For a laboratory to receive CAP accreditation, it must meet stringent quality standards and adhere to guidelines above those of more common laboratory certifications, such as CLIA. Discipline-specific checklists are provided to laboratories seeking accreditation prior to an on-site inspection by a CAP inspector. Once the initial inspection is passed, laboratories must undergo on-site inspections every two years as well as a self-inspection every other year to ensure all quality standards are being met.
CAP accreditation for its Winston-Salem histology laboratory supports Precision for Medicine’s mission to deliver the highest-quality, most comprehensive solutions for therapeutic and diagnostic development through its network of global laboratories.
