American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Houston, 2024

This past weekend, our Houston team had the incredible opportunity to organize a volunteer event at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge.

As we dove into activities like blanket making, card crafting, and catering delicious meals, the energy in the room was contagious. The highlight of the day? A fiercely competitive game of bingo that had everyone cheering and laughing! These moments reminded us of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of community support during challenging times.

During our time at Hope Lodge, we connected with patients currently undergoing (Car)-T cell therapy. Hearing their stories of hope and determination deeply impacted us, reminding us of why we are committed to fighting cancer and supporting those affected by it. It’s a humbling experience to see how our lives could change and the strength found in shared journeys.

Since our first event with Hope Lodge at the leadership summit in Houston earlier this year, we have felt inspired to continue this partnership. We aim to make this volunteering event an annual tradition, turning our commitment to giving back into a lasting impact.

Since 1970, the American Cancer Society has been building and maintaining Hope Lodge communities across the country provide a free place to stay during treatment so people with cancer can focus on getting better. These communities provide comfortable guest suites with private baths, as well as inviting spaces with all the comforts of home, including a communal kitchen, dining area, laundry rooms, and places to gather or find a quiet respite – all at no cost to guests. Since the first Hope Lodge was founded in Charleston, SC, over 6 million nights of free lodging have been given to cancer patients and their caregivers, saving them over $55M in lodging costs each year. Hope Lodge guests don’t just find a place to stay – they find a community of support and an emotional connection with others facing the same journey.
